How water level monitoring works

WellSenseOS is a water monitoring system: a cloud platform plus a small Python agent on your Pi. You own the water monitoring equipment; we host the app and ingest API for remote water tank and well level monitoring.

1. Gather water monitoring equipment

You’ll need a Raspberry Pi (3B+, 4, or 5 recommended), an ultrasonic distance sensor (HC-SR04 class), a stable 5V supply, and a weather-resistant mount so the sensor faces the water surface in your well or tank.

  • Raspberry Pi 3B+ / 4 / 5 €45–90
  • Ultrasonic sensor (HC-SR04 class) €5–15
  • 5V PSU + weatherproof mount €20–40

Indicative DIY total: €70–150 one-time (indicative). We don’t sell kits.

2. Create your WellSenseOS account

Register an organization, create a well or tank (shape, depth, sensor offset), then you’re ready to bind a Pi.

3. Flash the WellSenseOS Pi image

Flash our Raspberry Pi image, power on the Pi, and join the WellSenseOS-XXXX Wi‑Fi from your phone. The setup page collects your home Wi‑Fi and WellSense login, then registers the device automatically.

Advanced users can still install the agent over SSH instead of using the image.

4. Monitor levels remotely

The dashboard shows live fill level and volume for water level monitoring. Analytics adds days remaining, leak score, and usage exports. Configure alert rules in Event Hub. Remotely set reading interval and review device diagnostics. Optional Home Assistant integration exposes the same levels as sensors in your smart-home setup.

How measurement works

The sensor reports distance from the sensor face to the water. The platform converts that into a water level monitoring reading — litres and percent full — using the geometry you configured for the well or tank. This is level and volume monitoring, not laboratory water quality testing.
